Zions Direct launched its first Charity Auction on Friday, August 24, 2012, uniting with an expanding list of local and national charities. This initiative reflects the ambition of Zions Direct and Zions Bank to create value for their customers and the communities they serve.
The Charity Auction functions the same way as standard Zions Direct auctions of FDIC-insured Certificates of Deposit (CDs) in which customers bid on a coupon-based yield, but in this auction, participants select a charity they wish to support from a provided list before bidding. In addition to normal delivery of CDs to the winning participants at the close of the auction, Zions Bank – working with Network for Good, a donor-advised fund – will contribute a dollar amount equal to 1% of the total par value of the winning bidders’ CDs to the charity each winning bidder selected.
Four charities are featured in this inaugural Charity Auction that is expected to close on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.
Working “to build a world where all people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation” – This is the aspiration of worldwide nonprofit organization, Water for People. With a current focus on developing countries in Latin America, South America, and Africa, Water for People engages the communities of the areas they assist. By teaching locals the skills they need to build and maintain safe and dependable water systems using tools and products native to their surroundings, they work to instill a sense of ownership and empowerment in the promotion of both health and economic improvement.
Kenya Keys is fueled by the passion of dedicated volunteers who believe education is the most powerful force of change in the world. Providing children with scholarships, libraries, leadership training and advocacy for girls, Kenya Keys brings opportunity to the poorest areas in Kenya. A donation of just $25 can buy a 3-child desk and $350 can provide a year’s worth of room, board, and fees for a high school student. One hundred percent of your donation goes to the cause so even small donations can go a long way in Sub-Saharan Africa!
Serving remote communities in Africa, Asia, and South America, Human Outreach Project (HOP) engages volunteers participating in guided climbing and backpacking expeditions with World Wide Trekking to deliver goods and services that provide for the various needs of children in area orphanages. Monetary contributions facilitate the purchase and distribution of these goods, as well as help build and operate orphanages that promote the children’s health, education, and development.
Some 50 million adults and children in the United States suffer from the debilitating pain of arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation strives to provide access to care for those affected by Juvenile, Rheumatoid, and Osteoarthritis, as well as fund research to develop preventive measures – and ultimately a cure – for these conditions.
Zions Direct looks forward to the opportunity that this and future Charity Auctions will afford to support various charitable organizations, while also welcoming new customers and charities to explore and take advantage of Zions Direct’s innovative auction platform.
